Sweet Sixteen...
Saturday, September 16. It's going to be good... really, really good.
That's so you don't forget. It's this Saturday.
National Sew A Jelly Roll Day. We'll get to that in a moment. Saturday is also the APQ 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge Sew-A-Thon.
If you don't know about what American Patchwork & Quilting has been doing, here is what you need to know - their Frequently Asked Questions:
- What is the One Million Pillowcase Challenge?
American Patchwork & Quilting is challenging quilters, sewers and crafters to help us reach our goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities. Many charities can benefit from the donation of a pillowcase and the challenge gives you the opportunity to donate and make a difference in your community. - I own a quilt shop, how do I sign up?
You can sign up on retailer section of this site.. - When will I receive my marketing and promotional materials from American Patchwork & Quilting?
A marketing kit with a press release, media pitch letter, and event ideas is available in the retailer section of the AllPeopleQuilt site. Every year in late January, we will mail a kit with posters, table tents and more. - How do I participate?
Use the Find A Shop tab on the website to find a participating retailer near you. However, if there is not a participating shop in your area, we encourage you to make a difference by creating pillowcases and donating them locally. Don’t forget to update the pillowcase counter! - Where do I find the pillowcase patterns?
Patterns are available here. Two new patterns will be added each quarter. - Can I design my own pillowcase?
Yes, creativity is encouraged. Keep in mind, however, the intended recipient’s age and comfort. - What fabrics should I use?
Please check with your intended charity before choosing fabrics. Most charities we have contacted prefer 100% cotton fabrics. - What do I do with my pillowcase when it’s finished?

Last year, we made over 100 pillowcases in the office.
Our goal is to double that tally this year.
And because it's National Sew A Jelly Roll Day, we're going to use Pattern 26 to make a few pillowcases!
A Jelly Roll Pillowcase! While there are almost seventy pillowcase patterns on the website, this is our favorite. For obvious reasons.
As it was last year, these pillowcases will be donated to a Dallas-area charity that works with children.
We might even see about borrowing a few of these Jelly Rolls...
Keri of Catching Stitches Quilt Shop had some "family fun" with some of the Jelly Rolls in her shop. From spelling out M O D A to Jelly Jenga.
We debated doing this in the office but I think we've already opened up all of our Jelly Rolls...
So are you ready?
My sewing machine has been cleaned and oiled, and a new needle put in. I've got bobbins wound and a new rotary cutter blade installed. Snacks? Check. Entertainment? Check. Camera-phone and hashtags? Check! (#projectjellyroll... just to make sure.)
We'll see you on Saturday!
