Blockheads ~ Block 47

Blockheads ~ Block 47

This is the penultimate Blockheads post.  You have to know by now that I've been waiting forty-six weeks to use that word.

I'm going to miss seeing all the blocks popping up but... hopefully not for long.  Fingers crossed!

Starry starry nine-patch... paint your palette gold and dark navy-indigo... that doesn't have quite the same flow as Don McLean's Vincent but that's what comes to mind every time I see the name of this block - Starry Nine-Patch.  By Lisa Bongean.  (Like you didn't already know that when you saw the little triangles.)

This is Tammy's block - the prints are from Primitive Gatherings' Little Gatherings and the dark navy-indigo piece is probably from Collections for a Cause Millbook 1889 by Howard Marcus.

These fabrics are from Snowberry by 3 Sisters, Lexington by Minick & Simpson and Rachel Remembered by Betsy Chutchian.

Snowberry by 3 Sisters, Rachel Remembered by Betsy Chutchian, Fern Hill by Jan Patek, Alice's Scrapbag by Barbara Brackman and I don't know where that lighter blue print is from.

Starry Nine-Patch ala Fig Tree Tree & Co. is a combination of Farmhouse and Chestnut Street, with the Regency Blues by Christopher Wilson-Tate background.

And...

The same two Figgy collections and my favorite Liberty Gatherings' tiny star print by Lisa Bongean.

One little thing to share... for star blocks like this one, I love Jo Morton's "clipping trick".

Use sharp scissors to clip into the seam on either side of an intersection so that you can press seams in opposite directions.

(P.S. Please forgive the lighting on some of these pictures.  I forgot to bring my blocks into the office and by the time I got home to take pictures... it was a wee bit dark.)

Question of the Week ~ Now that we're nearing the end... if you could start your blocks and quilt over again, is there anything you'd have done different?

I would.  As much as I like the blue Reproduction blocks, I would have added bits of red and gold to the blocks from the beginning.  And I would have added more blues, reds and yellows from Minick & Simpson to the fabric mix.  I'm trying to make up for it a bit by adding it to the blocks and parts I still have left to make.  I counted blue blocks the other day and while I have been making some extras-duplicates along the way, I need to make eight more blocks to have the sixty-four I need.  All of those blocks will have red and gold in them.  I'll also be adding a few more red and gold geese to that mix.

Don't forget that there is a Blockheads Archive with links to all of the published blocks and blog posts.

That's it for today, January 24.  Be sure to visit Betsy, Lisa, Lynne and J0 to see their blocks and what other good things they might have made:

And don’t miss the blocks being posted to #modablockheads on Instagram and Facebook.  The colors, styles of fabric and block variations are wonderful.

If you're not already a member, you can still join the Moda Blockheads Facebook group.  It's a busy group with lots of tips, suggestions and support.

Happy Blockhead Wednesday!
