Welcome to Week 16 of Blockheads 5, Group 2! Today’s guest Blockheads designer is Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co. Joanna’s “fresh vintage” style is loved by so many quilters, and she has been a prolific fabric designer, pattern designer, book author, and teacher for the better part of 20 years. Joanna has also been a regular Blockheads contributor for the last several rounds!

You can find this week’s pattern here: BH5 – Group 2, Block 16 – Double Star by Joanna Figueroa

Be sure to head over to Joanna’s blog to read her post about Double Star today! She’ll be sharing her block pics and her tips and tricks, so you won’t want to miss it. If you are a fan of the stitch-and-flip method of making flying geese, you’ll definitely want to head to her blog to get the cutting instructions for making the Double Star flying geese with that method. Visit her blog here: Blockheads 5 - Double Star on the Fig Tree & Co. blog

Something new we’re planning for this round of Blockheads is a weekly video. You can follow along with me as I sew the block of the week and share my tips and tricks and talk about different construction techniques. I’ll post the videos on YouTube and share them here on the blog. You can watch this week’s video below:

In this week’s video, we’ll compare the pre-trimmed flying geese from both the four-at-a-time method and the stitch-and-flip method so you can decide which method works best for you!

I also reference a few notions in this week's video:

Are you ready to see our blocks?

Lissa is using Nantucket Summer for her blocks.

Alison is making a fall version in 12” blocks and a patriotic version in 6” blocks.

And I am making a traditional/repro scrappy fall version and a sweet/cottage-y Americana version in 6” blocks.

Now…off you go to press, cut, and sew! And don’t forget to share your blocks with us in our Facebook group or on Instagram (#modablockheads5)!
