Tall and slender with trumpet-like blooms, the stargazer lily is a showstopper in our summer garden.

6" or 12" block

6” BLOCK
From fabric 1, cut:
{B} (2) 3” squares
{D} (1) 2¾” square, cut twice on the diagonal to make 4 triangles

From fabric 2, cut:
{B} (2) 3” squares
{C} (2) 2⅜” squares cut once on the diagonal (you will have 1 extra triangle)

From fabric 3*, cut:
{C} (3) 2⅜” squares cut once on the diagonal

From background fabric, cut:
{A} (4) 2” squares
{B} (4) 3” squares

12” BLOCK
From fabric 1, cut:
{B} (2) 4” squares
{D} (1) 4¼” square, cut twice on the diagonal to make 4 triangles

From fabric 2, cut:
{B} (2) 4” squares
{C} (2) 3⅞” squares cut once on the diagonal (you will have 1 extra triangle)

From fabric 3*, cut:
{C} (3)  3⅞” squares cut once on the diagonal

From background fabric, cut:
{A} (4) 3½” squares
{B} (4) 4” squares

NOTE: If using solids, you can use 1 color as shown in the Bella Solids version of the block.

STEP 1. MAKE HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES

Mark a pencil line on the diagonal of the WRONG sides of each background {B} square. Align with Fabric 1 square. Sew ¼” away from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Press to the darker fabric. Repeat to make 4 units.

Repeat above process with Fabric 2.

STEP 2. MAKE FLYING GEESE

Join 2 {D} triangles with 1 {C} triangle as shown to make flying geese units. Be gentle with the bias edges. Starch and press. Make 2.

Join units as shown.

STEP 3. MAKE CENTER

Add {C} triangles to flying geese unit as shown.

STEP 4. ASSEMBLE BLOCK

Lay out block components as shown. Join together. Press well.
