Hi, Everyone!  Jessica Dayon- @jessicadayon- here today bringing you another block tutorial in this Countdown to Christmas!  This block is called Reindeer Tracks and it is a 24" block.  Let's get started!

This block finishes at 24" square. 4- 4½” x 8½” white rectangles 4- 4½” white squares 6- 5” white squares 2- 9 1/2" white squares, each cut on one diagonal to yield 4 triangles total 2- 5 1/2” white squares, each cut on both diagonals to yield 8 triangles 4- 5” dark pink squares 8- 4½” dark green squares 2- 5” light green squares 2- 5 1/2” red squares, each cut on both diagonals to yield 8 triangles 1- 4 1/4" pink square   Flying Geese Gather the 4 white 4½” x 8½”rectangles and the 8 dark green 4½” squares.  Lay one 4½” square RST on one 4½” x 8½”rectangle.  Draw a line from corner to corner on the green square and sew on that line.  Trim 1/4" from the sewn line.  Press open.  Repeat these steps on the other side of the 4½” x 8½”rectangle.  Set aside until needed.

  • Make 4 White Center Flying Geese, 4 1/2" x 8 1/2"

Half Square Triangles (HSTs) Gather the white squares and pink squares.  Lay a pink square on top of a white square, right sides together.  Draw a line from corner to corner and sew 1/4" away from the center line on each side of it.  Cut on the center line.  Press open and trim to size listed below.  Repeat with light green and white squares.

  • Make 8 Pink/White HSTs, 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
  • Make 4 Light Green/White HSTs, 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"

Quarter Square Triangles (QSTs) Gather the white and red triangles that were cut from the 5 1/2" squares.  Piece together 2 red triangles and 2 white triangles to make one quarter square triangles unit, shown below.  Repeat the steps to make a total of 4 quarter square triangles (QST).  Trim each QST to measure 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" (to make sure you have symmetrical QST, when trimming place the center point of the QST on the 2 1/8" mark of the ruler, then trim away the excess.  Rotate the QST 180 degrees and repeat the trimming.)

  • Make 4 Red & White Quarter Square Triangles, 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"

BLOCK CENTER Assemble the block center as shown below. Make 1 block center, 11 3/4" x 11 3/4" Corner Triangles Using the center block you just made and the 4 triangles, cut from the 9 1/2" squares, make a diamond in a square.  Sew two opposite triangles onto the center square.  Trim the dog ears then press.  Sew the remaining two triangles onto the square.  Trim the dog ears then press.  Trim this block to measure 16 1/2" x 16 1/2". Complete Block Assembly Gather the 16 1/2" x 16 1/2" center block you just made- the 4 flying geese, 8 HSTs, 4- 4 1/2" white squares- and lay them out as shown below.  Sew the block together.
